I am a nomadic Mexican artist, weaver of encounters, curator,
and healer of Nahuatl, Asturian, and Mexican blood. Since 1976,
I have searched and found myself once and again. I am tied to
art, and thus I avoid shipwreck. Everything I know has come to
me through intuition and persistence, necessity and desire,
search, and discovery. My path led me through the complex paths
of ceramics to dock in primitive simplicity. Digital
technologies that are an opportunity to manipulate dreams,
ritual axions, the invoking words, the objects-symbols, and
installations that create alternate states, interventions
appropriating the space, images that are memory, and voices that
question us.
I gave birth to Amadís and Alonso, but I also have the drive to
invent multiple long-term projects that favor participatory
processes. My artwork has reached streets, forests, squares,
volcanoes, museums, universities, and cultural centers; it has
been shown and made in closed, public, and wild spaces in the
Americas, the two Europes, Japan, Australia, and China, a
country with which I have a close relationship.
I found and still direct 5célula, arte y comunidad, an NGO aimed
at generating artistic projects at the international level, such
as the Festival of Chinese Video Artists. I am an honorary
member of the National System of Art Creators (Mexico) and have
obtained scholarships and residences that both encourage and
feed my being and my doing.
My practice
explores how human identity relates to nature, transmigration,
historical and postcolonial myth and ritual, and how all this
intertwines in variegated territories that look for empathic
flows of action and thought in this liquid world.
My work inquires how mythologies create mental structures while
strengthening the dominant powers and how social resistance is a
balancing energy that creates deep changes and new sustainable
myths, constantly designing society.
An important purpose of my work is to deal with community
interactivity and the co-creation of poetic-artistic action in a
social and natural medium able to expand traditional art spaces.
My practice therefore evolves through a constant development of
intertwined diverse and multiple actions, with feminism as a
cross-line.
For me, everything is artwork. |
